NZ Secondary Schools XC 2014 Results

The 40th anniversary it was held at Massey University in Palmerston North, who had designed a world class cross country course on the grounds and farmlands surrounding the Sport and Rugby Institute. The championships attracted 950 entrants from 125 secondary schools throughout New Zealand.

Comments by Vaughn Priddey
This years cross country course was held at a fantastic location. 800m of rugby fields and 1200m of rolling farm land with a water jump per lap. But to make the race even tougher there was a very strong wind.  Isaiah led most of his race, in a group of 3 boys which only opened up with 400m to go. He went one place better than his year 9 race last year. Jacob couldn’t improve on his 2nd place of last year. He was part of the front pack of 5, which kept changing the lead runner up until the last 500m, where he couldn’t stay with the leaders to finish the race.

By the time the Seniors got to it the course was a mess. Even long spikes barely sufficient to deal with some of the worst of it. Classy running by both Priddey’s. There were huge improvements for Harry and Matt, between them they climbed nearly 150 places on their results from last year.  With another year in the Senior boys, we’re hoping they can both break into the top 10.

I Priddey 2nd jnr boys, J Priddey (y13) 4th, H Ewing (y12) 11th snr boys, A Lord 9th (y12) snr girls.

Heaps from both HBHS and St Peters in top 60. Great running all hawks all grades, well done to those 3 seniors who are eligible for selection to race Australia SS XC champs in August. Breakthrough race Harry Ewing ‘grats.
