Xterra Rotorua Results 2015

A few Hawks ran this great off-road event last Saturday.

It was my third time doing the half marathon distance, and the day was fine, but the course was wet and slippery in places following a lot of overnight rain.

This running event is a 21km trail run, starting down Tarawera Road beside the Blue Lake, then on to trails down the length of the Green Lake and back, before following the bush track along the length of the Blue Lake to finish along the sandy beach opposite the campground.

I settled into a spot just inside the top 20, hoping many ahead of me would split off to complete the 5km and 11km options. (not many did).

RESULTS for our members and friends in the 21km event:
Phil Murray – 1st overall in a time of 1:19
Kevin Knowles 1:30 – Chicked by 8 seconds, but getting over it now.
Shanel Cornille 1:41 – Fast lady.
Sandra Jensen   1:51 –  Great comeback from recent injury.
Lisa Joblin        1:58  –  In great shape for the Harrier season.
Paula Klein       2:15  – Training run. Saving herself to get up early the following morning for  an EPIC BIRTHDAY TRAMP of three mountains in one day ( Mt. TeAroha, Wairere Falls and  Maungatautari)

Also competing at Xterra were:
Martin Ferry, Swimming, Mountain Biking and Running the solo Xterra in 2:56 (11th in age group)
And Karyn McCready winning the masters women’s 5.5km, in 27 minutes.

This is a great event with something for everyone, in an area that is a runners paradise.
