SUMMARY:Trophy Day
DESCRIPTION:Trophy day is a handicap start\, and is our traditional season opener. Not to be missed! Lots of trophies up for grabs\, and you may just score one\, forget\, and then be pleasantly surprised at prize giving in October. What could be better? \nThis is a handicap race from the club rooms with a staggered start based on your approximate or estimated 5km time – so in theory\, everyone should finish together. In the past there have been some very exciting finishes with the bulk of the field often only within 30 or 40 seconds. It’s a great chance for those who aren’t normally near the front to scoop one of the clubs most sought after trophies (…and to test your maths and timing skills). \nIn short: 5km handicap race. 12:30pm clubroom open; kids’ races (shorter\, non-handicapped) at 1:30pm\, and adults handicap starting at 1:50pm. BBQ and drinks afterwards. \nSee you there! Our base managers for the day are Fiona\, Emily\, and Lance.

SUMMARY:Huntly Half Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The event involves the traditional Half Marathon distance of 21.1km which is officially measured and certified under ANZ standards. There is also a 10km\, 5km and RUN kids 2km for Under 16 year olds. All events have the option of either a Run or Walk. \nThis new course is one that is expected to be FAST. It features a virtually flat single out & back route that follows the mighty Waikato River on completely on sealed roads. This course will only be used for the Half Marathon participants and no other event distances. \nLate March will provide better weather conditions to run in and is perfectly positioned 6 weeks prior to the Rotorua Marathon for those of you that need a Build Up race. \nAs New Zealand’s largest and oldest Half Marathon events the Huntly Half Marathon has had a long and enviable history since it started back in March 1981. \nGrowing over the years to a peak of just over 3000 in 2010 and sustaining numbers between the 2500-3000 participant mark over the last decade is a testament to the tremendous job done by Hamilton Hawks and the high regard this event has around New Zealand.

SUMMARY:National Road Relays
DESCRIPTION:For those who haven’t been involved before\, this is the highlight of the club year\, where we get to compete against other clubs from across NZ and the opportunity to show that we are the best! As well as being a fantastic team race over 7 stages\, it’s also a great social weekend as a club … not to be missed. \nWe’re planning to send as many teams as we can and cover all grades if possible. These include Junior Women\, Junior Men\, Senior Women\, Senior Men\, Masters Women\, Masters Men\, Masters 50+ and Composite team(s) for those who don’t make it into a competitive team. There are only 7 legs this year (6 for Juniors) – so competition for places will be hot! \nMotel accommodation has been booked for all teams for the Friday and Saturday nights\, and we’ll have dinner together on the Saturday evening\, and Lake City are organising an evening social function for later on. Accommodation is booked at Wylie Court Motel for as many as we need – so we should all be staying together. We’ll have a meal together as a club on the Saturday evening\, then to the social event that Lake City are putting on – should be a great night. On the Sunday morning we can have several departure times\, depending on who wants to go for a run in the forest\, breakfast at a cafe\, or head home. \nWe’ll be hiring a van for each team and these can be used to take us over to Rotorua on the Friday and return on Sunday. Since it’s only a short travel\, we can arrange a few options for departure time (so those who need to work on Friday can still do so and travel over after work). We’ll have a mini-van per team\, and there will be a couple of departure times on the Friday (30th September) from the clubrooms … one at lunchtime and one at around 5:30pm. For those not staying at Rotorua\, you’ll have to arrange to get over there early on Saturday morning to join your team. \nFinally\, costs. The final cost to each member still has to be approved by the committee – but the club will be heavily subsidising again\, particularly aimed at encouraging people to stay for the weekend. As an indication\, we are looking at approximately $100 per runner as your contribution (which covers race entry\, minivan & fuel\, accommodation for 2 nights\, Saturday meal and the ticket for the social … so a great deal!). Those not able to stay for the weekend – we’ll work something out.

SUMMARY:Gilchrist Rose Bowl School of Origin XC
DESCRIPTION:This will again be run in a School of Origin format (with teams based on what high school you did or do attend)\, and welcomes all secondary school athletes as well as members. \nThis event has been around for 5 or so years now. This is how it works. Each runner is put in a team according to which high school they went to and their age. To make a team\, there needs to be at least 3 from the same school. In the event of insufficient numbers\, teams are made up of regions\, or countries\, or even a world/international selection. All runners are counted in results. \nRace options are either 4 or 6 km. After the race\, your result will be run through the highly technical and complicated World Masters Association age grade calculator. \nThe team with the highest average score will be announced the winners for 2016.
