DESCRIPTION:Cambridge relays\, always great competition between AWBOP clubs and Hawks have a long history here. \nThis event is open to all members and the entry fee is covered through your club membership. We really encourage new members to the club to join in with a team as it is a really fun event with lots of inter-club rivalry. \nDon’t be put off by it being a cross country event if you are used to running on the road or track – the course is suitable for runners of all levels.  There is also a great 2km course for the under 12 year old kids. \nThis is an iconic event on a great course. DESCRIPTION:Waihi and Waihi Beach in the southern Coromandel are the impressive setting for the spectacular Nugget Multisport Festival. \nYou’ll take an unforgettable adventure from Waihi’s charming town centre out to the spectacular harbour and coast at Waihi Beach\, before returning via breathtaking trails to the rim of the mighty Martha Mine and our iconic finish line under the shadow of the Cornish Pumphouse in central Waihi. \nThis event offers a deal for six people entering together\, says director Mark Samson. “Starting on beautiful Waihi Beach\, near Coronation Park\, you’ll head north along the sparkling white sand for about 1km before heading up the first climb and on to the famous undulating single track. You¹ll run under the pohutukawa canopy and through the nikau groves on the Orokawa and Homunga tracks as the trail carves its way north along the rocky coastline to Homunga Bay\, before climbing west to Ngatitangata Road\, Golden Valley. This section of the run is stunning!\nPassing through the aid station\, you’ll head straight into some farmland\, down a big hill and along a couple of cattle races\, and even through a milking shed. New track will now link you through a friendly local’s farm\, across a small stream\, through an underpass and down through more lush dairy land. There’s another creek crossing\, some small climbs and a drink station before you’re back urban.Then it’s quickly back into the bush and through some cool gold-mining heritage features on Union Hill\, across the road\, to end with a short blast around part of the Martha Mine Pit Rim Walkway\, and the finish line under the shadow of Waihi’s historic Cornish Pumphouse. DESCRIPTION:Trophy Day based at club rooms. Handicap starts in our traditional season opener. Plenty of trophies up for grabs\, be certain to compete on the day. This event is open to everyone. \n \nNot to be missed! You may even score surprise trophies\, forget\, and then be pleasantly surprised at prizegiving in October. \nThis is a handicap race from the club rooms with a staggered start based on your approximate or estimated 5km time. In theory\, everyone should finish together. In the past there have been some very exciting finishes with the bulk of the field often only within 30 or 40 seconds. Its a great chance for those who aren’t normally near the front to scoop one of the clubs most sought after trophies. \nFormat – 5km handicap race. 3:30pm doors open\, kids’ races at 4pm\, with seniors and back markers 4:30. BBQ and drinks afterwards. Trophy Day will be sponsored by FastLane Fitness – gym membership and cafe vouchers up for grabs! \n

DESCRIPTION:Grampians is the hill that looms large over Nelson City\, with the transmitter mast at the summit. \nThe course is located at the southern end of the hill. The venue and course is most easily accessed from Market Rd via Bishopdale Ave\, off Waimea Rd at the Bishopdale Caltex service station. The course is also accessible from various walking track entry points\, including the Ronaki and Collingwood tracks nearer the city and Brook St on the eastern side of the hill.

DESCRIPTION:The Sing Relay is a unique two person fun relay on a 5km course. Both team members start together. However\, the faster runner runs ahead to the half way point and then turns around to meet their other runner. At the point of meeting\, both runners turn around and run back to finish line the exact way they have just run. The team that takes top honours is the team that has both runners home first. \nThis is a relay for all abilities and is loads of fun. You will either run less or more than 5km depending on your ability and that of your team member. \nDoors to the clubrooms open at 1.00pm with teams picked at 1.30 and the race starting at 1.50pm. \nCome and have fun\, and bring a small something as a contribution towards afternoon tea.\nLook forward to seeing you there!

DESCRIPTION:Taking in some of Hamilton’s best known landmarks\, the 12km and 6km courses include the scenic Waikato River paths and the iconic Hamilton bridges. SUMMARY:National Road Relays
DESCRIPTION:The National Road Relays is over the Takahe to Akaroa course in Christchurch again this year. The race starts at the Sign of the Takahe and follows the traditional route through Governors Bay\, Gebbies Valley\, Little River and Duvauchelle to Akaroa. The Junior Relay\, Open Masters over 60 and Corporate/Social grade will start at Allandale (start of lap 2 Senior Race) and finish at\nCooptown (End of lap 5 Senior Race) \n \nWe are planning a similar format to last year… \n\nCharter bus from Hamilton to Auckland on Friday 3rd October\n Flights from Auckland to Christchurch direct\nAccommodation at the Lincoln Motel (all of us staying there together this year)\nSaturday night dinner at Lincoln University\nFlights back to Auckland on Sunday morning (5th)\nCharter bus back to Hamilton\n\nWe are still working through the costs and the level of subsidy for this year\, but as this is the third year that it has been in the South Island (and will be back down there again next year) we have to be a little cautious with the level of club expenditure for this one event. There will be a club subsidy again\, but may not be as heavily subsidised as last year.  Full payment for the NRR flights is 19th August The teams that we are looking at sending to the Road Relays will be:Junior Women (6 runners)Junior Men (6 runners)Masters Women 35+ (8 runners)Masters Men 40+ (8 runners)\nComposite Team \nFor those who are interested in taking part\, now is the time to start putting yourself forward for selection as we move towards the road race part of the season. SUMMARY:Club Road Champs
DESCRIPTION:Club Road Champs has been held over the years on the slightly undulating 2km Ruakura loop course\, which is a traffic free course allowing you to concentrate solely on your running.  This is a major event on the Hawks event calendar and is open to all club members. \n \nEvent entry and car parking held near the McMeekan Centre. \nEnter via the Ruakura Road entrance (the barrier arm will be unlocked). There will be no entry from Bisley Road (which used to be part of Tramway Road) unless you walk from the gate. \nEvent Distances:\n2K – U10\, U12\n3K – U14\n5K – U16 Girls\, U18W\, U20W\, MW\n6K – U16 Boys\, U18M\, U20M [start with 10km runners]\n10K – SM\, MM\, SW \nAfternoon tea after the final race. Please bring a plate.

SUMMARY:Red Stag Redwoods Relay
DESCRIPTION:This relay is a great annual event for running and walking teams with a course that winds its way through the iconic Redwood Forest.  It is an event that is looked forward to by all and well represented by running clubs coming from as far as Hawera and Auckland. \nThe relay is open to running and walking teams from athletic clubs\, schools\, corporate and social teams over a distance of 5km per team member for the adult teams\, and 3.2km for the youth teams. SUMMARY:Whangamata Half Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Whangamata Run/Walk Festival has Half Marathon\, 10km and 5km events. All three courses take in spectacular views of ocean beach & pristine bush-clad hills along the way. The Half Marathon starts with a town circuit\, then out on to SH25 with a turn around 1km north of Top Pub and back to town again. The 5K is a flat course around the town streets. The 10K is partly around town and also out on SH25. It starts and ends at the Whangamata Area School\, Port Road\, Whangamata.

SUMMARY:Hawks Relay at Taitua Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:The race is approximately a 3km all gravel loop of the Taitua Arboretum.  Hope to have a traditional relay format\, depending on numbers. \n \nThis is a standard relay race with each runner running around a 3 km lap on hard packed unsealed paths and grass\, twisting through the tree park. Evenly matched teams will be selected at the event. \nBring a snack and enjoying the Arboretum after the run. \nWhere:  Taitua Arboretum ( Take Whatawhata road out of town. After passing the golf club\, turn left into Howden Road. Then left into Taitua Road. Meet in the Arboretum car park at the end of Taitua Road. \nMeet at the Arboretum car park 12:30 pm for the relay start at 1pm.

SUMMARY:Cambridge Half Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Half Marathon\, 10km and 5km is an annual running and walking event at Cambridge High School. \n \nStart/Finish area:\nAll three events will now start and finish at Cambridge High School.\nDue to Road works the Half Marathon start is about 500m from Cambridge High School. \nHalf Marathon course follows a low-traffic\, mainly flat\, extremely scenic course north and east of Cambridge\, along Flume\, Aspin and Maungakawa roads. The 10km course cuts through Tulip Drive and Watkins Road to join the half marathon course at around the 5km mark. The 5km event takes in the scenic walkway between Watkins Road and Thornton Road. Due to Cambridge Bypass Construction the course will be altered slightly.  \nLate Entries:Entries received after 17 August 2014 will pay a late fee of $10. Late entries will be taken between 8:30am and 10:30am on race day. Race numbers will be distributed on race day.Prize-givingThere will be a short prize giving at 1pm\, or shortly after the last competitor finishes. There will be medals for the first place getters in each event. We will have over $1000 worth of spot prizes to give away. SUMMARY:Waikato Bay of Plenty Road Champs
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place on a new course at the Tauriko Industrial Estate in Tauranga. This course provides a flat and fast course for athletes. Note that social athletes (club only) will be allowed to compete for a $5 fee. \n \nHowever\, such athletes are not eligible for the Championship and will not receive an AWBOP medal. \nNote that the course will also be used for the New Zealand Road Championships this year\, so it provides an ideal preparation for that event.  \nEntries can be made online at the event entry link below or possibly through the Hawks race secretary. DESCRIPTION:This is a very popular event on the Hawks calendar and brings in many who haven’t attended the earlier cross country races. Handicap Road Race whereby each entrant has a starting time based on their estimated 5km time.
