Mauao King and Queen of the Mountain

The Mauao King & Queen of the Mountain returns to Mount Maunganui for it’s 78th year on 27 April 2025, organised by Athletics Tauranga.

The main race is an approximately 4km run along the beach, to the summit of Mauao, then descending and back along the beach. The start and finish line is on the Mount Main Surf Beach opposite Mt Drury near Leisure Island/Moturiki Island.

This year marks the new inclusion of a new fun social walk to the top and back. Along with spot prizes including from Merrell and Mt Hot Pools.

There is also a Junior race (U15) that runs part way up Mauao to the tree/bush-line and back (approx 2.5km).

It is a family friendly event with something to offer for casual and elite runners alike.
