Lake Ngaroto
Distance: 5.7km
Grade: Easy
Type: Boardwalk, trails, around 500m of road
Lake Ngaroto has been a favourite of many Hawks runners over the years. Ideal when you want it to be easy and flat and off the hard roads or concrete footpaths. The walkway is mostly flat and includes stretches of boardwalk, dirt and grass pathways. Plenty of parking and has toilet and basic changing room facilities.
Car parking and toilets.
Extend the Run:
Do more laps. If you are training for long distance events then go around a few more times. Each lap gives you the opportunity to refuel, toilet stop and check-in with family or supporters.
How to get there:
From Hamilton head towards Te Awamutu on highway 3. Pass through Ohaupo and carry on approximately 7.5kms further till you reach Ngaroto Road. Turn right on to Ngaroto Road and follow the road all the way until you come to a T-intersection with Paterangi Road. Turn right. Then take the next right on to Bank Road and go down this road until you come to the lake.
From Te Awamutu head north towards Hamilton (on Ohaupo Road). About 2km past Taylors Hill (the big hill leading out of town), turn left into Ngaroto Road. Note that this turnoff is immediately after a corner so be careful not to miss it. Follow the road all the way until you come to a T-intersection with Paterangi Road. Turn right. Take the next road on the right (Bank Road). Follow this road until you come to the lake.
