The best weather ever. Running with the frost still on the ground on the shaded areas of the Spa Park course. A great number of entries, as usual, meant very competitive racing.

Despite a solid amount of rain at the outset, a good turnout of runners and supporters made it to our club champs at the Minogue Park course on Saturday…
This is how it worked. Each runner was put in a team according to which high school they went to and their age. To make a team, had to be at least 3 from the same school.
The annual Airport Christchurch marathon and associated events attracted 4500 entrants and Hawks athletes figured prominently in the National half Marathon section
There was a small but enthusiastic turnout for the Bannister Plaque on Saturday, an event that was a late addition to the calendar for anyone who was around over the long weekend … and it turned out to be an enjoyable and sunny Hamilton afternoon for the 22 runners who came along.
The annual Tauranga Open Cross Country was held on a remarkably dry Waipuna Park course with no surface water or mud despite the heavy overnight rain.
What a magic day of old style cross country racing took place at the Narrows Christian Camp on Saturday.
I decided recently to give the 100k champs a go this year, and flew down to ChCh for 50 laps of Hagley Park.

Hamilton Hawks sent the finest they could find.
An invitation from my 13 year old nephew to fly to Queenstown and accompany him on the annual Wanaka Motorbike Trail Ride was a little hard to justify.
I entered due to a severe case of FOMO and thought “how hard could 33k be?” I bought new shoes (thanks to Colin at Trek n Travel) and toe socks. Four little training runs later and I was happy that they would keep me on the trail.
For the first cross country race of the season I pull my cross country spikes off the shelf to find them caked with last year’s last cross country mud. I am glad none of my club mates saw them.
Despite it being not only the school holidays but also a long weekend there was a great turnout of around 60 people on a beautiful autumn day.
There was a good turnout, with 16 teams – special mention to Rosie Miller who stepped in to ensure everyone was able to run.
Sunday was a training run organised by Graham, inviting all Hawks wanting a good challenging long run. Starting out early at 525m elevation, we could feel the brisk chill while getting out the long sleeve thermals. The usual thought of ‘why the hell are we doing this’ arrived.
Rain and thunderstorms were predicted but our spirits were high and we were pleased to be chasing the 6am starters.
