Eight weeks to go to IAAF World Track Champs…
Last year I did the 17km (1 lap up) and so this year, after gaining a free entry ( thanks guys), I decided why not try the 25km ( 2 laps up). 4 laps is just mental. Who would do that?
On January 4th 2015 I downloaded the entry form, filled it in & with a 20 pound note I posted it to the Swaledale Outdoor Club Richmond , North Yorkshire, England.
Some 158 athletes took part in the Tauranga Open Cross Country races held at Waipuna in crisp but quite dry conditions. Some 17 Hawks travelled over the hill and showed the club flag.
Christchurch Marathon day started at a brisk -3 degrees. A lot of buildup to get to today. Would all those hours of training pay off in the result?
Thanks to all who took part in this event. Outstanding run of the day was from the evergreen John Crane with an age-adjusted score of 85%, closely followed by Harry Ewing and Isaiah Priddey, both on 82%
Alex Parlane led a lonely path around the Huntly half marathon course, winning as he liked in 1h 12m 38s. The former national cross country champion clocked a personal best in the windy conditions finishing a minute ahead of his Wesley Club team mate Tom Moyes.
This was a fun cross country event where runners were divided into mixed teams and must all run together. One runner drops off each lap.
Well done to our Hawks Relay Teams! Everyone had a great blast around the 3k. First in grade were MO2, MM and MW, with WO, MO1, MM2 and Hawks U18 coming in second. Sam Montgomerie ran the fastest lap, at 10.13, and Lucy Farrell had an impressive water jump effort.

I had no idea, really.
No idea of the terrain, no idea of the route, no idea how to adjust my borrowed race pack and no idea whether my obligatory pre-race injury would actually allow me to start, let alone finish.
Every Monday night a group of ladies meets under the coaching of Helen Hall-King to run and train together. We aren’t particularly fast, and will probably never take a place on the podium stand, but we are motivated and we do have goals. One such goal was to run in the Rotorua Half Marathon event this past Saturday.
Sunday the 12 April was an early start for a few of the Hawks contingent Lance Brew, Kovo McDonald, Brook Shepherd-Wright, Chris Smith, Katy Dawson and Nancy Jiang (sorry if […]
The first couple of events of a season are always filled with trepidation and this week was no exception. How many will show up? Will we have enough food? Will […]

Over the last year new natural running surfaces around Cambridge have become very common and runners and walkers are well served by a great variety of terrain.
Congratulations to all Hawks/Hawks-friends on their efforts at Tarawera. The Hawks aid station was a huge effort, and got great feedback from runners. Big thanks to the team for making that […]
